Streetsville Stingers Hockey Development Program
Overview
The SHL is committed to providing an outstanding hockey development program for the children that participate in our League. As part of our commitment to provide an outstanding hockey development program, we have established select programs at the Minor Novice and Novice age levels for families who would like their children to participate in competitive hockey in the future at A, AA or even the AAA level.
The SHL Select Program will position your child to excel in competitive hockey, whether it is here at Streetsville or elsewhere. The SHL is committed to providing our Select Program coaches with the best training opportunities to help your child progress in their hockey development.
Building on our strength
The SHL has a proud history of developing strong players through its Tadpole Program which focuses on hockey fundamentals – skating, shooting, passing and stick handling. With our Select Program, we are building on our outstanding Tadpole Program by providing our families looking to have their son or daughter play a more competitive brand of hockey with the opportunity to stay in Streetsville.
At this age, what matters for a child’s hockey development is access to ice time and great coaching. Our Select Program will provide your child with additional ice time and dedicated coaches which will give your child every opportunity to excel at the select or house league level of hockey.
Hockey Development
The time commitment during the regular hockey season will likely be three to four hours per week (two practices and one game per week), plus tournament play (likely three to four tournaments over the course of the hockey season). There may also be some practices over the summer months.
The Select teams are supported by parent volunteers to help with such things as organizing and managing team business and fundraising.
Making Select Hockey Affordable
For the SHL Select Program, the cost will include the $495 registration fee plus additional costs (such as additional ice time) agreed to between the teams’ coaches and parents.
In Mississauga, the cost to participate in a select program includes the club registration fee and team costs such as additional ice time, tournament registrations, and other costs that may be incurred by the team. The club registration fee typically covers the cost of one uniform, one practice ice time per week, and insurance costs. Team costs, for which the select team is responsible for budgeting and raising the required funds, typically include an additional practice ice time per week, tournament registration costs, and team paraphernalia (e.g., track suits, hockey bags, etc.). Select Team budgets generally are between $12,000 and $20,000 (or $700 to $1100 per player) per year over and above the funds raised through registration fees and can be as much or as little as the team’s coaches and parents agree to.
The focus of the Stingers Program is to make the cost of select hockey manageable for our families. To do this, we are fundraising and working with local businesses to generate sponsorships to keep the Program affordable.
Streetsville Stingers Hockey – Proud of Our Community. Proud of Our Game.
Our motto for the Stingers Program is “Proud of our Community. Proud of our Game.” Our parents asked us to establish a select program at Streetsville because they are proud of the Streetsville community and they want their children to play for a team that represents this community. We invite you to participate and support our program and help make the Stingers Program a great success for our players, their families and the entire Streetsville community.
